Swordfish
Swordfish are a unique type of fish especially for our area. Not to say they are uncommon, but they are harder to catch than you might expect. On average they are 4-5 years old when harvested on the east coast. There just isn’t a fishery here that would allow enough for commercial fishing for them like they do on the east coast. With a large pointed dorsal fin and a long sword shaped bill they have also been called a “Broadbill”. They have a large eye to help them feed in the deeper and darker waters, especially at night when they predominately feed on squid. In some areas people will troll or drift fish for them, however, in our area we tend to just drift fish for them at night when we go on overnight trips.
